He has studied printmaking at North Carolina State University (Raleigh), where he also did graduate work in architecture Art School at Laguna Gloria (Austin) Flatbed Press, (Austin) and Austin Community College, which has purchased his work for its permanent collection. Using primarily monoprint, collagraph, chine collé, and other relief methods, she enhances the surfaces with paint, encaustic, paper, photography, miscellaneous objects and ephemera. NJ is a member of Women Made Gallery and a PrintAustin board member. Her intuitive abstract art is rich in color, texture and light. Two-dimensional visual art will be the primary focus of this show, but we will consider three-dimensional objects if printmaking is involved. Each set of 2 impressions will upload under one entry, there will be 2 links per entry for each print in the SET to be uploaded. Submission is $20 for 1-3 sets/pairs (from the same printing plate). Purely digital and photographic prints are not eligible. Innovative approaches in contemporary printmaking (digital) will be considered as long as traditional print methods are still the primary technique. These include relief, intaglio, silkscreen, lithography, monotype, and photopolymer plate (i.e. Our primary focus will honor traditional hand pulled printmaking techniques. Our juror will want to see two of “the same” that are “not the same” – any part of your working process or final results which you pulled 2 very different prints from the same plate. It might be reduction woodcut at one of the stages when there’s no turning back. It might be the first pull from a monoprint and the ghost image. It might be one you consider final and one that is an artist’s proof. It might have hand painted or collage elements. It might be an etching inked with different colors. We want to hang 2 of “the same” prints side by side so that the viewer gets to compare the distinctions.įor each entry to this show, you will submit 2 impressions from the same plate but reflecting distinct differences. The beauty of printmaking is the ability to create multiple originals. In this show, we invite the viewer in for closer looking to appreciate the nuances which make this art form so unique ultimately to understand why each print is an original in its’ own right. Even after all that planning, with all of the specific skills and equipment, the outcome can be varied by the way you pull the print. The technical processes of printmaking are unlike most other art forms with the majority of the creative process happening before ink ever touches paper.
